  • Could you have the mushrooms on springs pulling them down and then smooth out the notches and interface geometry so the mushrooms can ride up and down as you rotate the arc? Not sure if that’ll make sense..!

  • Mobile for gf’s sister’s new baby :)

  • That's insanely good! Do you use some sort of computer program that tells you what sort of colours to use?

  • Yes that sounds like a good idea!

  • yeah it is a bit painting by numbers really. Takes ages and it used to kill my back

  • Drunken eBay buy of a plank of Olive from Spain. Much whittling and sanding later. Plenty of finishing work yet to be done...

  • Blimey, that is good

  • I'm not normally a fan of this type of thing, but I really enjoyed this (sorry, not sure how to embed)

  • made some more signs - I now have them on Etsy here, but forumengers can get them direct from me cheaper - one is out in the post already and I know @Oliver Schick is keen.... :)

Also finished off my lamp. Am quite pleased with it, although from a design point of view it is a bit strange, mainly because I was making it up as I went along...

Ha, unfortunately I don't have space for one, but I've sent an e-mail about it to the editor of the Tolkien Society newsletter.

Now for the ones in Cirth runes and Tengwar script. :)

  • One Schick to rule them all

  • Made one of those spaghetti measuring things

  • I got one of those as an Xmas present and never use it. TOO BAD!

  • Whats the hole size to amount of pasta ratio please?

  • Based on packet recommendations of 90g pasta per person, I got the following diameters:
    1 person - 21 mm
    2 people - 30 mm
    3 people - 36 mm
    4 people - 42mm
The closest bit sizes I had were 19 mm (spade bit, enlarged afterwards with a round file), 32mm, 38mm and 45mm (all with a hole saw), so they're all a little big except the first.
To answer your question, the relationship is approximately:
hole diameter in mm = 2.21*sqrt(no. servings * serving mass in g)

  • Very good. Now you just need to make a cyclist version. That should be about 5kg per person. :)

  • Thanks. It looks good.
Interesting how the hole size increase trends towards zero. I need to learn more about maths.

  • The number of servings increases by 1. As a proportion or the total servings this increase tends towards very small.

  • Finnish axe-and-saw-slingers build a log house. Great little documentary, this.

  • And the hole diameter goes with the root of the increase, as the hole area determines the pasta mass - e.g. double the portion size, hole area doubles, diameter increases by factor sqrt(2).

  • After using every grade of sandpaper and wire wool, plus many coats of oil, a finish has been achieved.

  • Did a bit more making today, got an old record from a charity shop, stuck it down onto MDF then laser cut it up into a jigsaw. Also took some digital images and stuck them onto MDF backings. Plus more signmaking. At this rate my bike rack is never going to get finished... :)
