Do I want an av amp?
Do they have phono as well? -
• #5103
The one I will be selling at some future time doesn't.
Onkyo TX-NR609

If and when I find the replacement for it, I'll give you a shout. Could do a good price for it and the CC6 so you can get a separate phono stage perhaps.

Why do you want surround sound?
-
• #5106
I want one too D... All this talk...
Learnt you need a HDCP 2.2 if you want to watch 4k through it... Just a heads up.
Unless Mashton gives you a good deal.

So that I can has helicopters in my back heads.
Because films are made with immersive surround sound scapes.
Because as a late teenager I was obsessed with getting shitty Dolby Pro logic surround sound from VHS in my bedroom and I feel the need to appease that person with what I am able to achieve now.
Ennui?

Has anyone heard the Sonos beam yet? My new apartment has made it a bit tricky logistically for a proper hifi and the landlord pre installed a Play 3 in the living room and Play 1 in the bedroom so it kind of makes sense to buy more Sonos stuff. Either way, I need something better for watching movies and also music - especially music.
If the Beam isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, does anyone have any suggestions for very slim/low profile bookshelf speakers? I don’t have space for stands - they would have to go on the wooden TV stand - about fifteen centimetres from the wall. Perhaps something like a Neat Iota?

The reviews are great, particularly for the price point.
I'll have one in two weeks and can give you my own opinion.
Although, I am going to be using it for non music duties.
-
• #5110
Ah right; for movies it totally makes sense.
People have experimented with it for music which totally doesn't make sense.
-
• #5111
Yeah agreed.
Just to reiterate, I will have two systems in the same place (!) :
One, the Sonos Beam and Play:1 surrounds, exclusively for TV.
The other, the Sonos Connect plus amplifier plus B&W speakers, exclusively for music.
The more I think about it, the more sense it makes - so that I don't have to compromise between AV and pure audio.

My requirements are pretty simple. Like me.
Apple telly.
Monitor (as I NEVER WATCH FREEVIEW TELLY).
Amplifier for the records that also does the amplifier for the telly.
WITHOUT A LOAD OF STAGES IN BETWEEN AND OTHER POWER DRAINS. -

You don't need an AV amp. You'll only be doing stereo TV won't you, not surround sound?
What speakers do you have?
How does it all work right now?
-
• #5114
Or is it all coming out of the monitor right now?

Around 5-6 months ago I recently acquired this beast of an Technics amp in a pretty poor condition. Few of the buttons were working and I took it apart (with 0 experience) and tried cleaning up some connections with pressurised air over the period of a week or so. As if magic everything now works!!! Very happy with it as it was sold as not working and after some research it turned out to be a simple fix.
It’s hooked up to 3 Jamo PR120A’s and it sounds class. Maybe not “audiophile - how does one measure the quality of sound?” but good enough to listen to my eclectic taste of music and it really packs a punch when cranked up for parties and 808 kick drums. Love it

I haven't got it all sorted yet.
I followed your plan. But changed the bits.Current situation is
Telly plus DVD player (for the iplayer and the prime) sound from tellyRecords into Amp
Apple telly 4 only has HDMI. The plan would be an HDMI audio extractor.
Which I think has been discussed on here. -

I used to lust after this amp when I was a kid, gawping at hifi

Actually saw this after I posted my question. Certainly seem to fit the bill. Active speakers seem so wrong, but yeah - if the reviews are true then they are probably worth a try.
Thanks @mashton - I’ll wait to hear back but yes. Music>TV. We got a relatively cheap TV as we don’t know how long we’ll be here for, and the speakers. My god. Horrendous.

you could also check out KEF X300A or (my choice, cos they're much cheaper) Presonus Eris 4.5 / 5.
Add a desktop DAC (with the right inputs depending on your source) and you've got a killer little music setup.

If wasn’t so attached to my amp/speakers, I’d love to try the ls50w. They do it all.
Maybe when I move house and need a set in my 12 car garage

Cheers for the caps D.
Yeah, but yeah but, yeah but, I can drop £300 NOW. £500 not so much.
I know you are right.
I must resist.
I've setup an eBay saved search for "Cyrus 8" and will sit tight.
