Any USB-C dongle has a DAC in it, so I would imagine the cheap one you get with the phone isn't going to be great.
Cheap BT is also a bit of a crap-shoot so it's not definitively the phone based on the info you've provided

Fiio do USB DACs for not much money which I imagine would be an improvement.
More expensive bt headphones tend to have more codecs with better sound.

Hi everyone, I am looking for a pair of over-ear closed back headphones for use at work with a budget of between £100-£150.
I have previously owned the Senneiser HD280pro and the AKG K551 both of which I liked and did the job, but thought I'd try something different this time. I am not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination for me the most important things are comfort, I don't get too hot using them and my colleagues can't hear them.I see Amazon are doing the Shure SRH840-E for £100 which seem to fit the bill and perhaps there will be good deals to be had this Friday.
What would people recommend?
Thanks -

It's more on-ear than over-ear, but check out Sennheiser HD-25's.
They're super comfortable after a week or two, and have a really great sound, and very straightforward design and handling. You will get less hot than with the AKG's, and your collegues won't hear a thing.
You can get them under £150 (look for the "basic edition"). -

Anyone tried the Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT?
Thinking of getting these as I'm tired of my current crappy work headphones (12.99 sony over ear jobs)... -

I dont have a usb-c phone but Vlad Savov has provided some strong reviews that I quite agree with in the past.

Had never even twigged that little adapter was even a dac, though USB c maybe had some way of knowing it had an analogue sound source being plugged into it so would output that when asked.
OK will start with a better dac dongle, cheers team -

I've got the 4.50's which are pretty much the same but with noise cancelling and I'm happy with them.

I was... Had a big bottle of water!
Good savings yesterday! Bought it for the gf to try replace her stupid iPhone ones.
Update to follow.

Cheers, unfortunately their cheaper headphones use a proprietary cable rather than MMCX connectors.

Oh, that's a shame

Picked up a pair of Sony wh-ch700n wireless headphones over the weekend for €89.
Probably should have checked here before purchase but happy with them so far.

My wish list for headphones is on-ear or over-ear, comfortable for a few hours at a time, light weight, noise cancelling, under £100.
Any recommendations? -

saw this and thought I’d get a pair too. They’ve just turned up and I’m amazed for £40. (looks like they’ve now gone up to 50).
Straight out the box fully charged, easy to use. I have only ever bought midrange headphones as I lose or break them. The sound is decent though maybe a bit too bassy.
You’re supposed to be able to listen to one bud only, I can’t get the left to work alone but am sure I’ll figure it out.
Can’t adjust the volume on these, need to do so on your device but I’m v impressed.EDIT: sound definitely not as good as my old normal sennheisers which were a similar price but still happy with them.

Anyone on here using headphone amps?
Got one (Topping NX1s) - basically to amplify a phone / mp3-player's signal before it goes into a passive mixer, not to use it with the headphones - but just plugged it between source and and the Sennheiser's yesterday evening, and was pretty much blown away how much "bigger" the sound was.

Yep. The dragonfly I mentioned before in this thread is fantastic, especially for its size.
I used to hot desk at work so the USB form factor was helpful, but I now have a permanent desk, so am tempted to stop using my dragonfly and shure’s and get a more serious amp and some headphones...

Needed some cheap in-ears with a straight 3.5mm jack so mating jack to lightning dongle was less clunky and shit. Got these - sound lovely for the money.https://www.amazon.co.uk/SoundMAGIC-E10-Earphones-Silver-Black/dp/B005HP3OB0/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1542988923&sr=1-8&keywords=EC10 - will heatshrink to the dongle so i never loose it again. Don't buy the 10c - jack is angled and remote unreliable on iphone.

I second that about the Dragonfly. It's very impressive for the size and price

Hey all,
What's the current consensus on a cheapish (ideally under 50 quid) on ear bluetooth option? Been looking at the Sony ZX220BT at about 45 quid. Mainly as I like the Dieter Rams-ness of the design. They're an xmas present for the GF so huge gaming cans are out... -

Is USB c just terrible for sound or do I have a bad phone? P20 Pro which generally is great, did try a Sony xz premium 1 and 2 but absolutely hated the shape of them. Had normal headphone Jack's though.
Mostly use in ear Sony jobs of 4 year vintage that were good at the time.
USB c you end up using an adapter and feel like what comes out of it is pretty poor (compared to old sony z series which had good output), trued a few peoples BT can and in ear jobs (non of real quality prob 30-50£ value and they all sound even worse, like honestly sounds like someone describing the sound to me through a toilet roll tube.
Or is there a USB c dac that would help sort it out?
Worst case scenario I just keep using my old phone for music.
