Chain tensioners can't be that great in CX, getting stuffed full of grass & mud until they seize up.
Also, they're massively fugly
I ran one for a while, never had any problems with it getting blocked by grass or mud. I'd recommend you run it pushing in to tension, that eliminates any slipping under load.
