No, Euro sizes are not gendered. A 42 is a 42 whether it's a small man or a big woman.

As long as it’s a) fully repaired and has been inspected to prove it and b) at least 30% cheaper than an equivalent vehicle of the same age/mileage/spec then go for it

Because shoemakers don't hold tight tolerances. They are usually precise, but not accurate.

Is this a spoke protector?
Seen clear plastic discs but not this Mavic example (numbered 1-10 assume for each pair/crossing of spokes)? Or is it just some unnecessary packaging?

Yeah I’ve always seen black spoke protectors on Mavic wheelsets.

Does anyone have experience of converting braze- on Simplex reftrofriction shifters (this kind) to band-on?

I want to move them onto another frame so was thinking something like this could do it?

Can I use an 11-42 Shimano MTB cassette with a XX1 or whatever SRAM 11 speed mech?

Band-on shifters are generally braze-on ones with a band.
Do you have access to a community bike dump kind of place that would have old parts lying around? Finding something compatible shouldn't be too hard.

There's some mention of two different bolt types for those particular shifters, but thanks for the tip of the bike dump - good shout! I believe there's one not too far away...

After some feedback of reviews about halo aero rage wheelset. Has anyone used these?

Got a mix of aero track and aero rage, both seem pretty good. I use them on my commuting bike fixed, no issues or problems and lighter than stock wheels. I got sick of looking for wheels so just got these as they were easy to get hold of. Would buy again

Is red locktight likely to be any better than Screwfix basic superglue if I want to reasonably permanently lock a nut and bolt together?

Will you be able to fully screw the parts together before the glue "sets". Loctite red gives you more time for "resetting".

A friend of mine gave me his old Vitus D26 a couple of years ago. I tarted it up a bit with hydraulic discs, mudguards, wald basket, new cockpit etc. I got quite a lot of use out of it as a rainy day commuter or just whenever I didn't want to wear a bag:

Anyway, said friend has moved house and wants to start commuting again so I'm going to give him the bike back, but I wouldn't mind a replacement. I liked the bike a lot but did often think I would't mind having some gears on it, to that end I've been looking around for something with a similar geometry, mudguard mounts, a fork that could take a nice rack and some sort of gearing (1x or hub probably fine) To that end I've found:

The bombtrack is obviously more fuckable, and I would get it from the top boys at my LBS, but the Vitus is about a grand cheaper even when I factor in rack + hydro add ons. Also neither of them are 26ers but it seems like they're a dying breed anyway. I guess 650b or whatever might be an option but I don't know how that actually handles on a bike. (I really rated the 26er aspect of the Vitus frankly, felt like it span up to speed nice and quick)

Does anyone else have any ideas? Open to trying to build something myself if it comes down to it, though I've never done anything like that before. Also don't mind waiting to buy something second hand (I could just try and rebuy the same bike I know but...I really want to have some gears)
