Explodes after 2000km tho
That's quite loud.
-
• #12753
It makes a slightly different sound, depending on what gear i'm in ;-)

Alfine. 10p
Bargain

The sound of a once-filled wallet, slowly collapsing in on itself, like a doomed star.

That's cheating. I knew it was a trap.
That is not a freehub... hub and so cannot be compared. Not fair. -
• #12757
lol, I can't afford a wallet anymore.
-

Quiet is the new loud
Shimano been winning at sneaky crit hubs for eleventybillionyears already. Their old MTB stuff was quiet too. Don't scare off the bunyips.

• #12759
I prefer noisy hubs. I like people to know when I'm taking the piss and freewheeling behind them

Has anyone used an adapter to fit 11/8 fork into a tapered 1 1/8 top and 1.5 lower headset? I assume something like this would work
https://www.jejamescycles.com/hope-tapered-headset-reducer.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIi_rQoqbW3gIVD53tCh2lRw4_EAQYCCABEgKOB_D_BwEMight be a bit bobbins but would let me use my surly fork I already have while I save for something bouncy
-
• #12761
Yeah it will be fine.
-

I have one of the Cane Creek reducer crown races kicking about I think, could have a look for it and pass it on for beer money
-
• #12763
Yeh great, though I’m in Manchester. They’re only £8 so unless you get a cheap pint in London you might be best hanging onto it
Presumably they’ll all fit any headset? -
• #12764
I get a pretty cheap pint in Norwich :)
Not 100% sure but I think Hope, Cane Creek, FSA etc all use 36deg bearings, so should be compatible

Shall I just buy this questionable groupset from china?
I want to ride!
-
• #12766
Just buy a 1x10 shimano/sram setup with a sunrace 42t cassette like the rest of us
-
• #12767
grrr.
But think how much more fun I'll be able to have with 12 gears!! -
• #12768
Think how much poorer you’ll be
-
• #12769
But I'll be fun rich
-
• #12770
Fine someone sell me a sram 10s rear mech. I've got an X5 shifter lying around I think
-
• #12771
Only when fully laden bike packing in the lakes or Scotland have I wished for a 50t on the back.
10s running 32x42 or a 34 up front if you want to go really fast is more than enough for pretty much everything the UK has to offer. If it's too steep to ride up in 32x42 you're probably fine walking anyway.

• #12772
These are annoyingly sensible suggestions
-
• #12773
Do you even have wheels and disc rotors yet?
-
• #12774
Yes! I'm only gearing short of buildable
-
• #12775
GX mech or Saint shifter/Zee mech combo. DOOOOIT
Alfine. 10p. Quiet.
