I suppose it depends where @campervangogh works. If it’s a reputable company with an efficient HR department with correct procedures in place then it’ll be dealt with. If it’s a builders yard then it’s unlikely to end well.

Was this very recent? If you like him at all I think there's still a window to go back to him and say 'by the way that was unacceptable, if I hear that again from you I will take action'. If you just generally think he's a prick grass him up to HR and don't feel bad about it.
