  • I'm with #andyp here. I'm late to the party and that interview with Wiggins. Reading it yesterday and indeed him talking about his book, made me both revisit my earlier years thrilling to Armstrong/Ullrich/Beloki and Mayo - and indeed Wiggins as Olympic champ attending Herne Hill on Easter Friday meet - and also accepting of failure. Wiggins, was and is a decent enough fella, a great rider of his time, no case proven and despite an 'of it's moment ' perhaps winner of the Tour (as there always have been) he shouldn't be painted so darkly. Avoiding the biblical, one should always question the moral highground one adopts - particularly from the armchair or a Surrey hills sportive - and be more subtle in consideration of apparent failure. Of it's time, under influence and fuck's sake, it's always been hard to win the Tour even if yer doped to the eyeballs. Kant might be a racist, Locke an endorser of slavery but both, clearly, are of their time and have contributed way more than they have taken away. Which is to say, I'm glad there was and is Bradley Wiggins and I'm glad he speaks his mind.

When he speaks at all. If he's got something to say (other than how much he loves Dr Freeman), I think it's high time he said it.
