  • Yeah I think I had tags turned off.

  • One does not simply disable tags

  • A lot of buyers are guests. If the classifieds are hidden then the market dies.

The moderation is small considering the volume of adverts and things bought and sold, and the level of fraud and incidents are very low too all things considered.

I think that what we have is a fairly good balance between open and closed, and before we make any changes we should understand why those changes are necessary. Presenting a post that says "hide classifieds" without overwhelming evidence of why it's necessary doesn't feel helpful.

As to whether people should engage with the wider forum... I'm not sure. I mean if a forumenger wants to sell a saddle, and someone wants to buy a saddle... then the net benefit of the transaction is that it helps keep the forumenger engaged whether or not the buyer engages.

  • When I've given free stuff away in the past I generally take a look at who wants it and do favour those who engage more with the forum rather than those who lurk around the classifieds hoovering up free stuff. I'd prefer someone to use it themselves rather than take stuff and sell it on. (I also stipulate a forum donation but obviously no way to check whether that happens, I suspect it is more likely with those that engage with the forum more though.)

  • I’m just putting ideas out there, do you think the classifieds is optimum as it stands? If you’re happy with it then I guess that’s the end of if.

Having to @ you every time something needs reporting. You don’t mind the constant @‘ing? Thought people profiting off classifieds without donating frustrated you?

  • I don't mind the @

I don't mind people profiting and not donating if they are participating or it's a once or twice moderate thing.

I only mind the blatant abuses, the flipping of things for profit, the excessive profiteering, etc.

I always find strict rules kill things, so long as things are reasonable then I'm happy. Reasonable is highly subjective, and I like that... because it allows me to be very flexible with people who may one day engage, or who are engaging. It means I can read a situation and go "this person is lovely and clearly broke... ignore the rules".

Strict rules just aren't friendly... and are we not the friendliest forum? :D

  • Fair enough if you don’t mind the @‘ing - I always feel like I’m disturbing you personally, a report button would probably get more use (good thing or bad thing for you I don’t know)

We used to be the friendliest forum, then you took away rep (and tags...)

    So about that...

  • Well they were being used to make snide attacks on people, and they weren't being used for search or filtering... so a net gain overall, but a reduction in comedy.

  • How many posts needed before we get to use tags?

Not sure how many posts it was, mine appeared about six months ago. When did you get yours back?

  • Are you able to rep as well @mashton?

  • @Velocio Can the user emails be changed to something else?

  • Yes.

Create another account using the new email, and PM me from your existing account with the new account details and I'll swap the emails around.

  • Hmm.its coming up as zero. Are you still on the naughtybstep?

  • Probably just balancing out the nerg I gave you last week.

  • That would still come up as a +, zero rated is because you’ve been/are a knob.

  • Oh right. Thanks. I'm just getting re-used to all this.

  • Those green squares next to your name are back btw.

  • Oh yeah, sweet.

We should probably move this to a whisper.

  • Yes.

The forums been fucked since it moved.
