I still think classifieds should be hidden till you’ve done x number of posts (maybe 100?)
Argument against this - you would get loads of nonsense posts by users trying to fast track access - solution ? Ban those users.
Possible positive side effect? Drives engagement, people may connect with the forum in a “deeper” way than they would with their free ride to classifieds.
Way to bypass 100 posts? £20 donation to the forum gets you instant access after accepting the rules of classifieds.
I also think we need a report button.

A lot of buyers are guests. If the classifieds are hidden then the market dies.
The moderation is small considering the volume of adverts and things bought and sold, and the level of fraud and incidents are very low too all things considered.
I think that what we have is a fairly good balance between open and closed, and before we make any changes we should understand why those changes are necessary. Presenting a post that says "hide classifieds" without overwhelming evidence of why it's necessary doesn't feel helpful.
As to whether people should engage with the wider forum... I'm not sure. I mean if a forumenger wants to sell a saddle, and someone wants to buy a saddle... then the net benefit of the transaction is that it helps keep the forumenger engaged whether or not the buyer engages.
