difficult to estimate Alf's power for his ride, given the unquantified effect of passing traffic
And the unquantified effect of using a very poor approximation of a 70s TT bike 🙂

Seems a lot of fuss about nothing. Anybody who has ever used OG Shamals knows that 6 spokes per side is stiff enough even on the rear wheel with a small flange just 25mm from centre. The spokes aren't hidden behind the rim as soon as you have about 1° of yaw. If there is any advantage from closely spaced flanges, it's going to come from replacing a length of fat hub shell with a length of skinny axle extension, possibly with a fairing like EC90s and Xav's wheels. Whatever they've gained with narrow hubs they've surely thrown away with that big fan blade flange.

That hub is also really bluntly machined with tiny rads on all those cutouts. I would have at least wanted those edges to have heavy radii or to to be knife-edged on both sides, especially since the thing has been CNC machined so there’s no excuse there. Narrow hub flanges is good in principle but all those sharp edges chopping up the airflow. And get those fricking spoke heads flush. I mean, bro, do you even boundary layer?
Edit: but I do like how skinny they’ve made the axle ends outboard of the hub flanges. Still be eds a rad where it meets the flange but good effort there.

Apologies if this is the wrong place. This is a long shot but hopefully some one out there can help as im pretty desperate. Recently purchased a Koichi San Planet X track frame, and i have just realized that it is missing the seat post fixing. I have tried Planet X but apparently they can not sell me one. Hoping someone can offer some info so at least i could get one made as at the moment i can not use it ! Pleas Help. Thanks

Not really correct thread. Try posting a Wanted: thread. Maybe ask on timetrialingforum too.
Don't post the same thing in multiple spots either or you're likely to invoke the wrath of the antispambot.

Might be worth contacting Scott at Cycle-Space.

Right hive mind. I'm trying to decide if I should have mudguards on my bike when I do the Transatlantic Way race in Ireland this summer. It rains on average 20 days in June and keeping myself dry and the drivetrain clean will be good. But will it slow me down due to the aerodynamic drag?

We've done this discussion already somewhere haven't we?
And it's no longer a race so it doesn't matter any more - fit guards :)

I'm sure there was a juicier chat though.

Thanks for the data. Isnt there a Lotus 108 in that building? How does that test? :)

Thanks for the help guys. Fingers crossed.

Aha - the tunnel doesn't have a roller motor yet so can't do spinning wheels, when it does I will definitely suggest quietly nicking stuff off the walls and from downstairs (the 1992 and 1996 hour record bikes are there)

Use one of the team issue BB motors? Er, i mean... yeah that's annoying.

Here's what Jan Heine says about those. He did some testing, though that's only with a front mudguard.
And here's this computer model thing.
And it depends on what mudguards you use, these should aero.I used long metal mudguards in an ultra race that had pretty flat first two thousand kms through Finland and was the fastest through that part. The others didn't have guards. So it didn't matter much it seems. A couple of others passed me after that and seemed to move slightly faster than I but it probably wasn't because of the aerodynamics. But it would be nice to see some more testing on this.

30% off Aerocoach AEOX wheels at NoPinz at the moment. Package deals at Aerocoach too, but discounted wheels on their own at NoPinz.

Discs all gone, one front left.
Guess it's difficult to estimate Alf's power for his ride, given the unquantified effect of passing traffic on his ride...
