  • do you think I must go for gum wall?
I once saw some mavic r-sys slr with gum wall and I liked it.
Tell me what do you think

  • Yes go Vittoria Corsa Graphène and Time bottle cages ; )

  • I don't know those cages
I'm used to set my bikes with arundel.
I'll try to get those Vittoria or some Veloflex. I think I'll like to see the mavic r-sys with that

    thanks gaston ;)

  • I’ll stand in opposition to gaston and say this bike benefits from the black tires. Not sure about rsys with tan walls, but this bike needs it’s tires black.

  • I understand why you say that and I also like to see these wheels with full black tubulars. Once I saw some r-sys slr with gum wall and I liked it by it was in a white bike. Must try to imagine (or play with photoshop) before changing

  • I once tried gum wall on it but with other wheels

    Definitely keep the black tyres.

  • I prefer the black three, looks meaner.

  • thanks ;)

  • If you go gumwalls I've been seriously impressed with my vittoria corsa graphenes. Been on some bumpy rides where the wheel needed straightening but not had one puncture.

  • +1
    gumgum

  • "Berk"?

  • Likewise. Great tyres!

  • thanks Jambon ;)
I use Veloflex Roubaix 25c (tubular) but I also want to try another brand to compare.

  • Pretty much finished this, just missing a ferrule and it seems the derailleur hanger needs a bit of a tweak.

  • That’s beautiful!
    Cockpit setup looks great.

  • Nope, it's either built by Gerard Gillen (Cycles Gillen) or Paris-Tours. Both of which were situated in Montreuil just east of Paris.

I assumed Paris-Tours as they went with this and some similar paint schemes on many of the frames during this period. But it was a common scheme not only available to them, done by Broggio also not too far from Paris in the other direction.

My LBS reckon it's a Gillen, a shop owner and builder who built his own bi-tubes during this period and also had some/all of his frames painted by Broggio. If so that makes it two Gillens I have.

  • Interesting thread, but the name...

Wonder if he sells many frames in the UK

  • Incredible frame and paint! Never thought about the bottle cage bosses on split seat tubes, interesting.

  • First bi-tube frame I've seen with a bottle boss and I do tend to keep an eye out for this type.

It's quite well detailed, not only are the bosses angled to keep the bottle cage centered in the frame but the two seat tubes are angled in a way to give space for the bottle cage - one leg brased slightly in front of the other at the BB...

...TBH the builder could have just had one too many with lunch that day hence why the tubes arent brased adjacent to each other.

  • Made some progress on the touring tandem. New cockpits all round, pizza I had spare, couple of other changes.

Mudguards are bent as fuck but not sure it’s worth replacing them.
