  • Top man! Thank you very much

  • London to Harwich route?

  • Thanks

  • Cheers for posting this up, used it today then got the train home (frozen hands and feet). Nice roads and not too much traffic out today

  • So I'll be Christmass-ing with the inlaws this year, and have permission to spend a couple of mornings riding. Unfortunately I live in Enfield and they are in Bexley, which is a bit of a horrible cross-section of London to navigate before getting out to the lanes around Foots Cray etc. Does anyone have advice on a halfway decent route? I was thinking Green Lanes>Viccy Park>Greenwich Foot Tunnel>Blackheath>Eltham

  • Does anyone have a good winter/ dark (i.e. no canal path) commuting route from Crouch end to Canary wharf? I spent summer and autumn going down the lea navigation/ Limehouse cut but am a bit wary of that when it's dark

  • Looking for a route from London to Manchester, any ideas?

  • In 2015 I attempted this route. If I remember correctly I took the route that Rapha was using from Manchester to London and then changed it to start from Sheffield. You could probably google the original. I did cave after about 10 hours ish and got a train home from Northampton but from what I can remember it was a nice route mostly lanes with very little traffic.

  • Good one, I was hoping for a flatter one as I am not sure how much I will want to go through the Peak District after having done 300km, but it's a very good starting point! thanks!

  • Did this a few years back - https://www.strava.com/activities/682411092

Was pretty good, the only change I can remember would be at 22.6 miles to go College Rd and then Tibbs Hill Rd as the way I crossed the M25 was a pretty rough track

  • Kudos for the ride mate, cracking effort!

I will look into the route and pick up that

  • this

I've done this ride a few times (Rapha London>Manchester route in reverse) and it's great - are you planning to do it all in one day? As it's tough that way round, with about 70km of Peaks at the end.

If you're breaking it up over 2 days, The Boot in Repton is my favoured stop - leaves you a lumpy but short 2nd day into Manchester. It makes it a much nicer trip than trying to do it in a 1-er.

You can cheat in the Peaks and do a bit up the A515 into Buxton which is flatter and faster (but not as nice)

  • Yeah, it will be a one day effort in preparation to an even longer ride from Angel in London to Angel of the North in Newcastle.

My girlfriend is running the Manchester marathon on the 7th of April, I was planning on riding up there on the 6th, and taking the train back afterwards with her.

I will use the Rapha route for most of the way I believe, and then divert more along side the route the @Saffronspokes did. I've been to the Peaks in April before, and it's not a nice place to be in case the weather starts acting up.

  • Looking for a decent CX loop in Epping forest, just got a 'cross bike and eager to get muddy. Anyone have any decent ones?

  • Anyone got a tried and tested route from London > Newcastle?

  • Has this got anything to do with our chat last night? ;)

  • No its a pure coincidence ;)

  • I cycled to the Humber from London once with a section of the route burner from London-Edinburgh-London.
A more detailed search might find more for you, but there's some parts of the route here: https://ridewithgps.com/events/18751-london-edinburgh-london-2017#routes/23461128/preview
Maybe that would be a good start? Although in my head, you've already ridden that.

@giofox seems to have the right idea with Angel2Angel.

  • good shout might as well just do LEL route again and turn right at Darlington.

  • Does anyone have a good route from London to Cornwall (Wadebridge) or even part of the journey say to Stonehenge?

I could just go A303 / A30 but both a re fairly busy roads.

  • yeh dont go on the a303 please.

  • Nice one - i might try and go straight and route via Yeovil and re-join at that midpoint in the Blackdown Hills.

How was the section from Staines to Basingstoke though ill probably be on that section at 5.00 / 5.30am so should be quiet.

  • I did the route Falmouth > London and came through Staines way at around 1 am ish so it was dead quiet. Wouldn't be so nice at a more conventional hour I'd imagine. You should be fine 5am though
