The SONdelux is designed to give the same output for higher wheel RPM, so it depends if you're going to be able to keep the speed up. For ultra stuff I would have thought you don't want to lose lights when you get tired/are dragging your sorry self up a hill at 2am in the rain, so the SON28 is maybe a better idea.

Interesting page and graphs, thanks. It looks as though the additional drag from the 28 over the delux is minimal, normally less than a watt, and apparently the weight difference is a rather irrelevant 22 grams. I think you're right - 28 it is.
So, who's got a SON 28 12 Centerlock in 32 holes hanging around doing nothing? In black.
For a dynamo hub for a fast tourer/bike-packing/ultracycling bike do I want a Son Delux or the 28? For lighting at night and USB power bank charging during the day.
