Light bicycle 30mm internals?
What would I be looking at with Hope / Lefty hub build? Difficult to justify > £400 TBH
-
• #12703
No idea I'm afraid, but I'd imagine the rims would run to at least £300.

Can’t remember who said about Marzocchi, but there’s a set of bomber forks at the shop. There’s a risk that they go on a build unless someone wants them. Can get info tomorrow.

It was me fella....let me know their state and the price?

Nice. Was walking this energetic little fluffball for my neighbour so was too busy to flick back a few pages.
I’m going in tomorrow around 10-11 am to swap out the RST’s for the Marzocchi GranFondo 1’s so I’ll take some photos and get a condition report and price for you by pm.
It’d be better if you could swing by next Saturday for the stripped club (I put up a meet thread in the members only), otherwise I’m free at times most other days.
Will pm tomorrow. For now, here’s Bonnie the doggo.

Do I get the Gen. 1 Sherpa on ebay? or hold out for a Gen. 2?
-
• #12708
That’s nice. Pretty scratched though and it’s got s small dent
-
• #12709
Mine flexed so much that 2.0 tyre removed the paint from chainstays. I'd hold on for gen 2.

vertically stiff and laterally compliant. oh wait...

Anyone want to ride Epping this Sunday? It's lovely out at the moment with the leaves down.

Bonnie's cool.....!
No worries

Top advice ta

I’ve got a mk1 and love it but would suggest holding out for a gen 2 for rear tyre clearance. I run a 2.3 Maxxis Ardent on the rear and haven’t noticed the flex mentioned by @pit but there’s little room for anything with a bit more meat on for mud or anything offering a touch more cushioning

Maybe there was something wrong with mine. It was the first batch of gen1. It defo made climbing interesting

That or you’re rides always ended at a Greggs 👀

I did sport a 120kg all donut body at the time...

My mk1 slackline was conservative when it came to tyre clearance too.
To be fair it and the Sherpa above were from a different era.

Turns out that there is no chance of finding the v brake adapters for the marzocchi, and I am loathe to buy them online and wait, nor spend the extra. Anyway. These are two potentials. Any good?

Soooooo... I got some plush Manitou XVerts now, which feel so so nice compared to the RST’s, though indeed the RST’s were quite nice compared to most on BSO’s.
This was my ‘shortlist’ of v-brake potentials, but the bombers have been spoken for, and the others I couldn’t be 100% about.
Anyway. Took a real pain of a job to find an extra 10mm of steerer through some imaginative bosching for the headset, where this pair were slightly shorter.
@stedlocks they told me the bombers being thru-axle are earmarked for a £££ Kona build, but if you make a good offer on them they might reconsider. There’s the Marzocchi Gran Fondo 1’s going spare now as they aren’t on my bike.

So I got a pair of 27.5 Mavic XA Elite wheels for < £300 new with warranty, tyres, tape and sealant. These are 25mm internal and good up to 2.5” according to Mavic.
I’m unming and ahhhing about keeping them. BPW killed the bearings in the stock wheels on my habit so I have to do something here and the formula hub has been a fucking pain in the ass.
These look great and are pretty normal for Mavic - standard spokes and tapped rather than the sealed rim bed from yore. The tyres look Ok - somewhere between a rocket Ron and hans dampf but probably not much use right now.
Thoughts?

Unless you can be bothered with building up a set of wheels from something like the Race Face Arc 27/30 rims CRC has got on offer, I doubt you'll get better. 25mm is fine, anyway. And they look pretty.

And they look pretty.
Ah so beautifurrrl
Decision validated. Cheers fella!
