Keep the saddle nose behind the BB and you should be safe. Try to avoid looking like this:

Also got stems if you need; couple of adjustables (95 & 110mm) to lend for the cost of postage.
£100 for the fork with that length of steerer is a good deal IMO.
@Pifko Coincidentally, was rebuilding (and polishing) that bike (and fork) yesterday before reading this.
