Thanks both. Liking it a lot so far.

One thing I didn't notice at first is the case also has a sort of crowning over the lugs, creating a really unique looking peak in the middle of the top and bottom of the face.

    Really nice little detail.

Just need to find the right strap for it now...

  • Thanks!

Love the f300 - still want one at some point.

  • Kind of interesting new 4R36-based Seiko diver for those who prefer a steel bezel… sadly 45mm, again.

  • What's with all the massive divers from them still?

Some brands are moving back towards the classic 40mm size and Seiko seem to be bringing all their best looking models out in 44mm + sizes.

  • Yeah, you'd think there'd be room in their range for at least one 40mm 200m model with a 4R36 or 6R15 (i.e., hacking and hand-winding at least) and a decent strap. I'm fine with the 42mm ones, and I have a SRP775 which works thanks to the short lug-to-lug, but 40mm is probably my sweet spot. (SKX013 is too small, doesn't hack/hand-wind and the hands look like a child's watch.) Even the "baby Turtle" is 42mm.

I think someone at Seiko is convinced that people only want giant divers watches, or that it's their signature. Their classic divers were mostly pretty big, especially by the standards of the time.

Edit: side note, this new SBDC065 I have wears more like a 42 than a 44 as the bezel is smaller than the case by more than a mm on each side.

  • I was looking at a black faced one of those the other day. Are they as much of a pain to read as they look? :-)

  • Oh, I use my phone for the time.

Takes a few seconds looking at it to decide which hand is pointing where, yes.

  • What watch will you wear today?

    Laco Flieger!

  • the right strap for it

black leather with a sort of vinyl-like finish

  • You really are a true connisour, the Elnix is amazing.

  • @ejay2.0 Can you guys do watch valuations for insurance? :)

  • TBF their divers seemed to be geared more to diving than most so-called diving watches. If you were actually in the water +40mm is preferable.

My big thing is the thickness of all these watches. It would be so nice if manufacturers put their energy into achieving 10mm.

  • So is this the new SKX007, sort of? Takes its place in the hierarchy?

  • I don’t think so, unless they’re going to discontinue 7S26-based divers altogether. Though, this doesn’t have the Prospex logo so it looks like it’s pitched below the turtle et al. Starp looks cheap too. Haven’t seen a price yet.

  • Interstering design

  • I kept seeing people claim SKX007 was not made anymore though not sure if that holds water. Are there other non-Prospex Diver's 200 meter watches than the SKX family? Seiko 5s are 100 meters, right?

  • Looking into it... seems to be a tweak of the SRP585:

    https://www.creationwatches.com/products/seiko-prospex-299/seiko-prospex-automatic-air-divers-srp585-srp585k1-srp585k-mens-watch-6402.html

With a more conventional bezel and no Prospex branding. So I would expect it to be no more expensive than that one, which is already pretty close to SKX007 money.

  • I’ve seen the claim that 007s are no longer made, and everything you can buy now is “sell-through”, for a couple of years now... it resurfaced again recently. They do seem to be end-of-life though. There are a couple of other 200m divers, like the “Stargate” / SRP495.

IMO the best price to quality Seiko diver right now is the turtle reissue. If you’re patient you can pick one up for less than £250. I got my SRP775 for £242 off eBay.

  • I got the Dawn Grey version, so that took away my hunger for Turtles. And I do have to say I feel Sumo fits my wrist better.

  • Ah, I love the dial on that grey turtle, would prefer a black bezel personally though.
