  • Yeah that's the point - new ones will probably be for sale at £45 from day one and work their way down to £35ish

  • According to the Conti rep they’re changing the range and phasing out old tyres because like Shimano they’re fed up of being price shagged. Can’t remember exactly what he said but the aim is that wiggle etc won’t be selling their tyres at trade anymore because they won’t be available OEM. They’ve found loads of shops dropping them because of the online pricing issues. I’m afraid new retail prices might actually hold up - can’t see anyone paying that for a delicate Conti road tyre though.

We told him we’d believe it when we see it.

  • Makes sense. Their top end MTB tyres have been pricey for a while.

  • Brexit means we'll be paying £340 per tyre for shit made in Germany anyway.

  • Your scepticism is well founded. I’ve list count of number of product launches i’ve seen where the salesmen/reps have been told there will be no discounting and to protect margin at all costs. Right up until, either, sales aren’t great or they are up against a competitor for a big (or sometimes small) contract/order.
Then it’s a swift race to the bottom as turnover rather than margin becomes the kpi.
