    I mean, I'm also not the one who cares how people dress. Wear chinos, a shirt and sandals, I've done that before and had a great time.

    As I said, I don't care what you wear - just the suggestion that cycling-specific gear somehow isn't better to cycle in is a bit ridiculous. But that being said, there are reasons not directly related to the cycling itself that might mean you don't want to optimise your clothing just for the riding itself.
