It's a pearl white with gold sparkle through it. Then he went to town with my design in gold leaf. All logos are either gold leaf or paint and I tried to keep with the original classic design and not go too crazy, although I must admit the colour coded stem will raise a few eyebrows..

This deserves much more applause than it has had.
There is so much technical work in it.
Painting white and keeping it clean?
Forget about it.Leaf is HARD!...
Doing leaf as well as this with the sharp edged precision and no pinstriped lines to hide the work? Brilliant.Painting fine details OVER the leaf?
In multiple colours and not compromising the leaf?
BRUUUUHAnd then... the flowcoat and polishing?
Look at how sharp the reflection lines are! This is a finish for refinishers.
5/7 would ride.

Wait so are you saying I can't do this with a rattlecan?!

Is stunning though

LOLZ!
Have a look at the leaf work that's out there... then come back and look at this one...
It deserves an award. -

It's superb! Fucks me right off to look at the refinish on my Koga Miyata and see how crisp those logos should have been. Incredible work indeed!

should have been
More like "could have been".
The tools are available to anyone but not everyone has the same level of knowledge and experience. Not all types of products are available everywhere either... some countries have better products for example.Got pics of your finish?

Laziness on his behalf. He's an extremely talented airbrush artist and painter who specialises in lorries and motorbikes but he talked me out of the silver outline that should have been on the lettering and there's a few spots around the lugs where the paint is heavy and some imperfections in the masking lines on the lettering too.
I expected perfection from this guy having seen his other work.

No need to name and shame at all...
BUT... can I ask what you paid for it?
There's a LOT of technical work in that finish without doubt. For what it's worth... there are a few things beyond the control of the refinisher... the work around the lugs can only ever be as sharp as the original shorelines. Not everyone works as clean as Richard Sachs for example.
Budget depending, I might've talked you out of the silver outline too if you were one of my customers.
There are a couple of methods of approach but any of them makes it a much more complex undertaking. It can add a half day and easily more in terms of processes and how it's tackled.Red on white like that is a genuine danger zone for bleeding so making that as unfussy as possible will make the processes quicker and therefore cheaper for you. Its worth considering that originally these decals may have been applied using a sticker/transfer/waterslide kit so this type of precision work is a lot more difficult to get right by comparison.
Silvers (and lighter metallics) require additional prep stages in order to hide prep marks in the primer which are not seen with darker colours for example.
The metallic blue into the flat white is another very technical element to nail too.
White is a p.i.t.a to paint cleanly, then the conflicting nature of the products (the blue having much metallic flake in it) makes them hard to blend... spot repairs and blow-ins are not possible in a gradient or a fade because of the nature of their application so again, painting graphics in a single colour in the area where you could compromise the finish is definitely a safer way to do it and leave less room for repairs and touch ups - these types of repairs are par for the course btw... they're not indicative of poor technique... they can't be avoided fully.I wouldn't say the painter was "lazy" but I'd say "cautious" in terms of approach for the sake of possibly saving you money.

I get where you're coming from of course and he actually did a great job on the faces but he admitted himself he rushed the job a bit, he had the frame for six weeks and I suspect he only painted it in the last few days of that time!
Price was €400.
I wouldn't have minded if he'd said straight out "this is some tricky stuff, price will be x amount more for this or that" but he knew what I wanted and told me after that he had too much work on and rushed it a bit.
Anyway it still looks lovely, just as long as you don't look at it for too long ;)

Makes sense.
In my humble opinion, you got a lot for your money.

that cannondale is absolute filth. love it

That Cannondale is good. Leaf is really hard. Especially when you are painting on top of it. Top work from whoever did it.
