When Gabes did the TD I remember pictures of bikes with rifles mounted for bear protection... That's the look I'm going for on my post brexit commutes.

It pays to hang on to a couple of army friends...

used to be a thing. Seeing as we are going backwards down brexit lane - might as well make it a thing again

If it's good enough for Dervla Murphy on her way to Delhi then I'm in.

Not a race but seems like a proper good route:
650km off-road bikepacking route between Glasgow and Manchester

Some nice images coming from the JapaneseOdyssey, fastest rider last year Yusuke Ochiai leads the pack. Riders from France, Netherlands, USA just behind (it is not a race of course). Toward the rear, Barnaby Fox rides on a Brompton. Though there isn't much on social media, Far Ride Magazine did a short video of the start:

^^^ That last shot of Mount Fuji is glorious.

Those voile straps are amazing things!

Not sure how long that tube would stay hole-free with it strapped up like that.

Not long at all!
What are your 2019 ultra plans?
Plenty of stuff to choose from -

RaTN for some LOLs then a Hyper SR, then, dunno as I'm basically waiting for TCR details before planning anything else.
-
• #2441
Which 600's are you doing? I'm contemplating a Hyper...
-
• #2443
O cool, I'm doing a couple of those. Pendle looks tough!

Pendle looks kinda like Tan Hill 600 done backwards to me but I've not actually looked closely.

Can't speak for ireland or wales but this is another race planned by people who won't actually know the roads very well. Loch Lomond side is grim and the roads around Fort William are also shite.
My mum saw that i'd 'liked' their facebook page and messaged me in a panic, asking if I were planning to ride on those roads. She's lived on the west coast of Scotland for 50 odd years so knows the roads pretty well. I'm sure plenty won't care but IMO there is no need to include those roads.

That looks bloody good fun

I was going to moan again. But it seems it’s all I do.
You’d think they’d ask or do they’re own research. The A82 from Tarbet is grossly unsuited to bicycles.

There's a ride I'm looking at that goes on that road I believe. What's wrong with it? Close pass sort of thing?
-
• #2449
From Tarbet to Balloch is 70mph logging lorries and other artics on single carriageway with zero form of shoulder to get out the way.
Tarbet to Crianlarich is just honestly a death trap. There's turns that i've had to stop in the car to let lorries pass the other way it's so tight and twisty but again with a huge speed limit.
Many people may have no problem with these roads but persoanlly and the peopl i ride with wouldn't go near them.

Interesting again. I've ridden Crianlarich to Tarbet but only in the middle of the night, so absolutely nothing on it. That was an audax that was timed to hit the busy roads at night time. On something like this they couldn't do that.
Step 3: Profit
Surely?
