I’ve been riding beyond my means this last couple of weeks, the mtb makes me feel like a kid again and I’m trying to throw the bike and sprint and bunny hop over every tiny crack and ramp in the path. As a result my hands and wrists are really hurting from bad technique...maybe I am decades too late to that game.
Kinda fun breaking down some childhood-trauma-based fear of hopping up/down over kerbs. Not so fun mistiming a pothole and slamming the back wheel onto it.
However, because I’ve spent the last however many years on a road bike, I’m quite used to sitting for hours on end, and this seems to be counter-intuitive for the more fun side of mtb.
Thinking of dropping the saddle, forcing myself to stand for the majority of the ride, and maybe slow down and concentrate on learning to actually lift the bike under me. For example, the saddle feels so high I can’t really get behind it for what feels like where I should be to try shift my weight to wheelie/manual. Or is that more that I must commit, and really just try and pull the front up higher?
Riding ‘fast’ seems to be fun and knackering, but leaving no energy for actual skills, compared to the road kit this Marin is hella heavy.
Is there some kinda mantra to force me to chill the fuck out and slow down time and concentrate on the actual technicalities of this stuff? Wait. That just sounds like drugs.
