I have always summoned help for smaughstien, solaire is useful there too, at least as a distraction.
I'm stuck with lord Gwynne which is frustrating him being the final boss. My parrying skills need honing.

Even worse, if you have the DLC and go to Artorias before you fight Sif, he recognises you and wont start the fight since you saved him in the Abyss. Properly heart-wrenching
