I'm pretty sure they had my passport number in the past. Never asked for HR to get involved though.

Nothing to do with Brexit. CRB checks have always had to include verification of identity and address, it’s only recently that this has been audited. HR probably do it now because line managers couldn’t be arsed.

Maybe. In the past line manager wasn't involved either as it's done via an agency online.
I feel slightly unsettled now
