  • My SKS Chromoplastics have seen better days. What’s the forum approved, freely available full coverage fixed ‘guard set these days? Running 35mm tyres on a Planet x London Road.

  • About a month ago I would have said SKS Chromoplastics as I have used them for as long as I can remember. I finally got around to replacing a battered pair and the new (well, not that new) rounder profile is fair inferior to the old squarer section. I can just about squeeze 25mm conti's on my track frame with guards and the new ones flex/twist/move too much and I get slight tyre contact at times which is annoying. But more annoying than that is the rear guard failed after two weeks use by snapping clean in half despite careful drilling and fixing in the same way as I always have done in the past. Been repaired with a riveted stainless bracket for a temp fix, but will be binned once I decide what to get as they are just not as good as they used to be and on a commuter need to be super reliable...
