Which is what makes me think they don’t have set plans. Or insurance.

Japanese Odyssey starts in a few days, Peter Andersen from TABR listed to start.

Strasser leading World 24hr Champs unsurprisingly.

That bike race deserves way more attention than it previously had imho
-
• #2381
Part of why it hasn't had that much attention is probably because they say
it is not a competitive event. We definitely don’t see it as a race.

They are off anyway :|

Yep, godspeed to them.
Can't see Peter Andersen on the list, I think only name I know of those is Steven Hon, he started NCT but crashed and broke a bone unfortunately. While dotwatching this might not be that interesting to me, as they're not racing but more like audaxing, the route looks amazing and sure will be a huge adventure. The routes have looked great every year. Here's a random spot along the parcours north of where they are. Would ride.

Yes, doesn't look like PA is racing, though he was on the roster. Yusuke Ochiai was quick last year, Hiromu Mitsumune is returning too. There was a lot of rain in 2017 that messed with it and there are double the amount of riders this time. The scenery looks incredible, agreed. Not sure it fits in ultracycling, audax, or touring thread. Don't wish to annoy others by posting about it, so will keep updates minimal and brief. :)

No go ahead, it's nice to see pics and read stories about rides while I'm stuck at the office. :)
There was lots of rain in 2016 too, a friend of mine was there and had his framebag and electronics full of water.

I remember the 2016 videos and pics, loads and loads of rain!
I think it's more fast touring than ultracycling

On the tandem?

No. Next?

I'd recommend the TNR over this, unless you really like the race feel.

You can plan it so that you always have a bed. I just think it's a more interesting route, rather than having to cross south of France just to reach a third peak, when there are so many closer ones.

• #2394
Race around the Netherlands?
-
• #2395
Isn't the Torino-Nice gravel/dirt rather than the Three Peaks which is road?
Then again, not sleeping outside you may as well just tour. Your first race should expose you to the full horrors of bivvying. I mean, it's only a few days, it's not like your skin even merges with your lycra by then.

That wasnt on 20 July was it, ?,,some nutter drove past, spraying me with rocks

thinking of doing it as our first ultracycling event with a view to doing TCR at some point in the future.
Usual gateway drug is audax, a not too hard 600 like the flatlands, with a travelodge or bus shelter stop, according to taste, would be a great intro. Or even a harder 600 for that matter.

It's 50/50 but can be done all on tarmac, missing out on the mist glorious bits
Edit: then you have to drop the word "Rally" in it though

No, it was a few years ago. In a car with no roof, doors or windscreen. It's fairly distinctive.
They've only just opened a twitter account and it has been fairly active over the past couple of days.
