As a Commonwealth immigrant I have to prove my immigration status to employers on a regular basis. I give them a photocopy of my passport and a photocopy of a previous passport. They put them in a file and ask for the same again a few years later. The evidence is totally unintelligible to anyone not serving as an immigration officer but it is never checked so everyone is happy.
