    A check on passport from eligible countries (the citizens of which can work freely) is loose and I guess there might be some kind of HR audit/Compliance that covers it.

    If you are on a visa which means you are sponsored by an employer who has a license and a login to SMS (Sponsorship Management System) where they have to input the CoS (Certificate of sponsorship) number, thats watertight.

    No I have a vague status "indefinite leave to remain". If EU "settled status" is run the same way the system will be so chaotic it will not work. Since 2009 I am supposed to have had an up to date stamp in my passport but the Home Office is so hopeless they have been unable to process this for over 150,000 people in my position. They have no hope of running it for over 3 million EU citizens.
