V90 is 350% cooler than the equivalent S90.
Get the T8 R-Design for maximum silliness.
What happened to the S90?
-
• #44953
Yes- amazing how much of it was empty under the bodywork, the majority of which I suspect is there purely for aerodynamic reasons. It’s a 962 when all put together.

Unequivocally.

It was turned into a Jackson Pollock.
Paint rained on it from a great height, every external surface has been affected.
Except it wasn't paint, it's a substance used to treat concrete to protect it for 25 years. So it's pretty permanent and a jet wash removed nothing. Roof, doors, lights, mirrors, trim, glass, wheels, wipers, sensors, panels, grill, bonnet and boot... Everything.
Cost of repair is so high that it's a write-off. The car is fundamentally sound and has not been involved in any collision, it's just decided to be modern art.
Insurance are just going to replace it with another new one.

And I don't get a great deal of choice regarding V90 or R-design. And this is fine with me.
The S90 is the car I'd buy if I won the lottery. It's my dream car. Another one exactly the same is just dandy.

This era of motorsport is the peak imo. Beautiful metal fabrication. C9 is the best of course. 😎

That sucks - are the people responsible not going to foot the bill?
Your premium will be fucked for the next 5 years if it's on your bill...
-
• #44960
The council subcontractors did it. They're definitely going to foot the bill. They damaged 20-25 cars, about 8 of which severely.
Not sure what happens with premiums, but I had to claim as the costs to repair are huge.
-
• #44961
So are you claiming through your insurance?
We had someone go into the back of our car 3 years ago at a traffic light and caused maybe £1k of damages. They admitted fault, we didn't lose our no claims and it was covered by their insurance.
Our premium still rose 20% (and will do until 5 years has passed) because of it...
Hate to think what will happen if you're claiming against your insurance for a full write off.
-

@Velocio it sounds like you're already claiming from the council's subcontractor, but if you're not, then that's what you should be doing!
If you've explained the details to your insurance company fully, then they should be using their legal team to go after the sub contractor's insurer anyway.
Unfortunately even if it is a non-fault claim, you might still see a small rise in premiums. I don't think insurance premium models are advanced enough to differentiate between different types of non-fault claims. Even though the likelihood of this type of "accident" happening again is basically non-existent (well for another 25 years at least), all the model will compute is that your car is in a vulnerable position because while it was left unattended, it was damaged to the point of write off.

It's a £60k car on finance. The council initially sent out a form declaring that they'll valet the vehicles, but that won't work and a detailer already shook his head.
So I've got to get the car back to new now, because if not I'll face a huge bill in a few years.
Hopefully the third party will fully cover it and my premiums won't be too severely affected, only minorly so. But it's got to be done

This is what is happening.
The subcontractor is a huge company and will be insured. But the people on the ground are morons, so it's easier to let the insurers deal with it.

Had my misses car damaged by a contractor vehicle delivering to a site, on the other side of the road! Thankfully came out with a repair to the clear coat in under an hour.
Their site boss was very un interested . -

Sweet, best way of sorting it tbh, less hassle for you.
How is the brand new car thing working out? I know some insurers replace a car that's less than 12 months old with a brand new one automatically (mitigating the depreciation costs), but others will only pay out what it's worth now, meaning you need GAP insurance.
-
• #44967
It is a brand new replacement, and just in case I had the gap insurance. I'll be fine. £500 excess and nothing more.
I might go for a different colour though
-
• #44968
Once the sub-contractor coughs up, you'll get that £500 refunded.

Is it worth looking in to second hand parts and a paint job?
Maybe if someone else buys it.

Loss of no claims and then having to admit a claim.

Would certainly ask what the buy back is.
Stripping and painting a car that doesn't have rust or significant panel damage isn't terrible, if you did a lot of the donkey work you'd maybe be around £2.5-4k at a paint shop for decent enough results.

Turbulent air doesn't magically laminarise itself, so it'd still be turbulent at the injectors.
The Volvo is written off! Long live the Volvo!
Reckon I should pick a different colour this time? Should be a fairly straight replacement, another S90 T8 Inscription Pro.
And if anyone is interested in my car it will be on copart in a month or so I think.
