The problem we have had with a few of the UK based rescue centres is that they can be quite slow in getting back, I appreciate that they are volunteer based but when you have left phones messages, email and social media post regarding a dog only for a few days later to be told that they have already gone it's a bit of a pain. Some of the places I spoke to had a kinda we are doing you a favour rather than the other way around. The rescue centre we are hopefully getting our dog from have been really on the ball, from the initial enquire on Wednesday last week, to a home visit next Tuesday with a possible date of the mid of Nov, is a pretty quick turnaround, maybe we have just been lucking and it's worked out well for us but I think the non uk places seem to run that bit better.

That was my impression of Dog’s Trust. Having said that, we did some of their training and it was great. Their support for the dogs they rehome is very good - lots of help from behaviourists etc.

We found this little fella wandering around our neighborhood yesterday, no collar, hungry and thirsty, eyeballs bulging with stress...
I'll take him to the vet and see if he's got a chip, poor thing seems terrified... Took him for a walk around the neighborhood last night to see if he could find his way home but he just seemed happy to be on a lead...

You'd have to get in line behind me!
He was chipped, owners were called and they're gonna pick him up from the vet after work... I kinda wish I'd insisted on handing him over personally tbh, felt a bit weird leaving him to be kept in a cage til his humans turned up...

Holy shit we're getting a dog, just had confirmation that Ollie our Romanian recuse will be with us on the 29th Nov, how do I break the news to the cats?

Has Ollie been socialized with cats? How old is Ollie?

He will be 5 months when we get him, I did ask had he been around cats and they said that he had while in the rescue centre.
Our cats are quite chilled around dogs or the ones that have been at our house, they either go to their safe place in the or sit just out of reach.

Have you got any idea what he is or how big he’ll get? His paws look chunky which suggests he’s got some serious growing to do.
He’ll be fine with the cats. Plenty young enough to train him to leave them alone.

Our whippet came to us as a puppy. He is totally fine with our cat but will try to kill literally any other cat that he encounters.

They said Lurcher and about the size of a lab

Thanks all. Decision made, picking him up in a couple of weeks.
He's a lovely 16 week, old time Stafford. The owner is having to move and can't keep pets at his new home

My friend's staffie was so happy to see me yesterday that he punched me in the balls and then shoved his tongue in my mouth. The staffie, not my friend.

My dogs both go for full tongue kisses. The boy likes to head-but my nuts too.

I've had staffords before, my favourite dogs really, but have been disappointed with the trend over the last 10 or 15 years for overweight, short legged and invariably blue dogs. They used to be one of the few breeds unaffected by show standards, and now they're being ruined by too much line breeding for certain characteristics.
Anyway, this boy - Reggie - really is a fantastic little dog, a bit of a throwback. And it'll be nice to have a dog around the place again.

That used to be a good night out in Leicester when I was growing up.

Not the worst breath I've encountered either.
A huge number of those dogs in the U.K. are staffy types and people have a ridiculous aversion to them. They make amazing pets.
Not sure I’d recommend at Staffy x JRT though. Ours is bonkers and quite tetchy but I think that’s the Jack in him.
