I went to try them earlier and the display model had run out of battery, then once charged wouldn't connect via bluetooth and sales assistant couldn't find the cable... A bit miffed as I wanted to hear how they sound and how well they blocked out noise. Are they as good as wired models or do you notice a difference if you use them with the audio cable plugged in?

Actually I have the 4.50's,don't know what the difference is between them and the 4.40's.
I've not used them wired but apart from the usual audio hiccups when using Bluetooth they are good.
They block noise well as they are over-ear rather than on-ear. The noise cancelling is noticeable but just blocks the background noise i.e. traffic noise and the day to day hum of life.
Mine have a NFC connection built in and connection just meant holding the earphones to the back of the phone. Connected straight away and no problems since. The buttons take a while to remember which one does what and there is no obvious indication if noise cancelling is on but they remember the previous setting when they are powered off.
I have the Sennheisers and I'm quite happy with them.
