Freecycle: two steel frames, one French one British

Posted on
  • Hi, the shed is really too full of crap, but of course I don't want to take bike frames to the tip...
    Pick up only, in Peckham.

Especially not the French one. I got it on here for silly money (£20 or so) but had to ride quite far on the motorbike to go get it, and spent time stripping the brush applied thick coat of paint on it. It has interesting features so I thought one day I'd do something with it. Nope... Nice pointy lugs (don't remember the name of these) decent dropouts, etc. Feels reasonably light, it's not gas pipe. It has a budget French bottom bracket fitted, no headset. The forks came with the frame so I can reasonably assume they are original. French threaded if I remember correctly. Size is about 58cm square (ctc) PROVISIONALLY GONE WITH @JayNdaBeater

The other frame is I believe British. My late neighbor knew I liked cycling and when he saw stuff in skips would now and then bring stuff back to me, old wheels, etc... The frame was once these skip treasures. It has also been brush painted... to last... About 2mm think of paint there (I'm exaggerating, but it's mad thick) sand blasting would reveal Nervex (I think) lugs. Typical 1960s frame, could be a cheap Carlton (fork crown is pressed not forged, dropouts aren't forged either), but maybe Reynolds 531 still. The headset fitted is composed of bits butchered from many other headset, madness. Comes with alloy stem and drops. Size is 53.5cm seat tube, and 57cm top tube (ctc) PROVISIONALLY GONE WITH @mr_lunch

Picked up weekend and evenings ideally.

  • Both rather nice!

  • Wrap round and Crespera lugs make the red/white frame a typical Tru - Well tubed Carlton. Other frame with the portacatena dropouts is very nice :)

  • Would love to take the British frame, I can collect this week...

  • Hi im interested in the French frame, check pm

  • I have an old french frame in the garage with (what look to be) exactly the same seat stays, same nice pointy seat lugs and head lugs, same rear dropouts, and same BB braze-ons as yours.

I've no idea what make it is either.
