Wanted: Planet X Carbon Track (small) - or similar

Posted on
  • Hi, looking for a small (ETT approx. 520mm) carbon track frame for track racing.
Planet X Pro Carbon track would be ideal, but others considered

  • The Planet x track frames aren't very stiff.

  • maybe ideal was the wrong word..
    happy to be recommended/offered others!

  • A lot depends on budget. 7vrn are chinese carbon which are supposed to be good badged up by Brooks Cycles you can buy the same frame for less but then you don't get the warranty.
Most Dolans are good TC1 which replaced Track Champ (and resolved the seat clamp cracking issue)
DF3 's are great DF4 are prob the best track frame for the money then you start getting into the rarified atmosphere of LOOK , BT , Koga but the DF4 will hold its own against any of these.

  • Currently ride a 2010 aluminium langster, so probably looking for a lower end carbon frame. Can't afford a DF4 and above

  • Maybe go for the 7vrn (or unbranded version from China) or a DF3.
Maybe the Planet X wouldn't be too flexible in the small size you need?
Or one of the good alloy frames?

  • Yes i have a flame red Planet X Carbon Pro fixed gear for sale in a small frame size.

    Halo wheels
    Dura ace block 16 teeth.
Stronglight chainset with miche 44 ring
Ultegra 600 front brake (Carbon race blade forks)
    Ultegra 600 BB
    Cinelli low pro bars.
    New saddle
    Schawlbe Durano plus armoured tires
    Choice of pedals
    £750

Sorry i dont know how to post a picture of it here.
email me if interested and i can send pictures

  • thanks for the tips, i'll take a look. Happy with a chinese frame but wanting to go second hand to get better value for money.
what decent aero aluminium frames are there?
I suppose I'd want it to be tangibly faster than my langster

  • There are vatious alloy options - not sure of costing. The most important thing with a track frame is stiffness.
Also must be a proper track frame with track geometry not a road fixie / track type thing.
Track geo has shorter offset (sometimes called rake - remember straight forks also have offset) which gives larger trail and MORE stability not less as some people believe. Twitchiness is not desirable on track.
Also it is common practice to go up a cm or so in top tube length over your road size.
Frame makes in alloy which are worth investigating would be Moda , Felt, Dolan ,
    Fuji etc.
I reckon any decent quality track alloy frame with good tubular / wheel combo would serve you well.

  • too late. sold now

  • thanks - are the Cinelli Vigorelli Alu frames any good?

  • Hi
Sorry for late reply. Not sure about the Vigorelli frames.
Maybe check out dome track forum or review sites.
I am having a bit of a break from track but if you went to Stratford when there was a decent training session like over 40's or sprint specific or similar then I'm sure you could see what the quick guys / girls are riding.

  • Hi, I’ve got a Leader 735 frameset for sale on this site if you’d be interested in that?
    Cheers
