  • Those are awesomely silly wheels; are they lighter/faster than stock? (Not that their radness is affected by such pettyfoggingly prosaic metrics...)

  • I had even sillier ones in mind.
    Tri aerospok.
But the people who were making them for me spent the best part of 6 months dicking me about with (plausible) excuses, until it got to the point where the 180 day window of opportunity to launch a Paypal dispute was looming, so I pulled the order.
The current wheels are a little lighter than the standard ones - albeit not a huge amount - it was more about rad/mad looks rather than weight loss.
Not enough use to assess the difference. Yet. I suspect it isn't huge.
The freewheel is of a similar noise to that of a Hope one. If not more so.

  • Trispoks would be sillier, but those are radder IMO - were they built up from parts, or bought complete?

  • Bought complete - I supplied sprockets / spacers.
Order placed on a Saturday, delivered to me the following Thursday - from Taiwan.

  • Pretty much every Brompton sized carbon wheel is heavier than stock / what you could but for much cheaper... but it’s all about the look right!

Need some black guards on there!

  • Was thinking the same about the mudguards......
FWIW, the bike tips the scales at a smidge under 9kg

  • Are the custom aluminium guards that you can get any lighter than the standard ones?

  • Just built one that was 7.5kg! Was tidy!

  • The stock guards are by far the lightest you can get, most of the carbon guards are heavier from experience!

    Ti stays help a bit...

Loads of ways to save weight, what’s your build look like?

  • Interested to know how.

  • Ti forks, bars, seat post, rear triangle, bottom bracket, mudguard stays.
    Custom wheels on hubsmith hubs.
    Ultralight brake levers.
P type stem with flat bar.
    Kojak folding tyres.
    Super light removable pedals.
    Sub 175gram saddle
Cranks were the stupid light ACE ones with Ti bolts.
    Seatclamp/clip/hinge clamps superlight ones etc.

Got some photos somewhere, was pretty damn light.

  • Cranks / bb, actually fitted a different bb, about 460grams total

Saved 450grams on the cranks/bb alone

  • Just idly wondering, really! St Jan always claims that e.g. Honjo guards are lighter than Chromoplastics, partly because the stays are lighter, but the aluminium Brompton guards I've seen mostly reuse the stock stays - Ti ones would help, I guess! At 6'5" and over 15 stone, weight-weenieism is always going to be the most marginal of gains for me...

  • Would be interested to see your pics.

  • Can’t find the whole bike gallery... it might be on my old phone or hard drive!

  • Anyone has a standard Brompton saddle rail clamp and saddle going spare? London based but postage is ok if not.

  • Where does one stick LFGSS stickers on brompton?

Also are the brompton decals hard to take off/replace with others?

  • Got a saddle you can have - late one with the Cat Eye bracket fitting. Located in SE23.
    No clamp.

  • On the front half of the main frame!

Yes, pull off no trouble. I would do so for you, but bike has to leave the shop with it on!

  • Thinking of buying black ones and replacing the silver/white ones.

  • Who do you work for?

  • You will hardly see them, the reflective ones would be nice?
