Sorry, forgot to reply to this--yeah, I don't know. I'm sure she would also have stressed that she got amazing support, but I have to say the other thing stuck in my mind more. If I remember correctly, there was certainly a difference with the organiser of that Antarctic event. I'd have to ask her again about the extent of all this.
This I find strange - as a vegan ultrarunner (with a Vegan Runners vest), I've never had anyone even mention the veganism other than to ask about how we fuel ourselves though races. There are quite a few vegans at the very top level (Scott Jurek being the most obvious example). And most runners are in awe of the guys at the sharp end, male or female - I've never heard anything remotely sexist in the sport.
She might mean Dean Karnazes though - he's a cunt.
