  • would you recommend flo30s as a good rim option for a basic track (rather than street) specific wheelset build?

It seems a bit expensive to qualify as "basic", but I'm sure it would work OK. It would be interesting to test against the DT RR511 with a 22mm tyre at low yaw.

  • In case anyone has a rear 90 they want to move on, I'm interested. Ideally Campag.

  • Has anyone got a spare Flo30/60 front wheel?
    (Clincher / alloy braking surface)

I have a Flo90 rear so it would be nice to pair it up.

    Cheers

    Vince

  • I have one with a worn out braking surface...? ;)

  • Has anyone got a spare Flo30/60 front wheel?

I have a Flo90 rear so it would be nice to pair it up.

Failing that, does anyone want a Flo90 rear wheel?

    Cheers

  • I PM'd him a while back but he never replied :-(

It is a rear Flo90 clincher with alloy braking surface. The black anodising on the braking surface has started to wear off but the breaking surface is intact. In great shape otherwise. Tech spec:

    • 90mm deep
    • 11 speed Shimano (I have a 105 cassette on it I can leave / remove)
    • Stealth red stickers over 3k matt carbon weave (removable)
    • Black hub and silver aero spokes
    • No QR

They retail for 499$ + 50$ shipping then you have to add VAT/import taxes when it gets here.
Pre-Brexit, $/£ rate was £1/1.45$ so that would make the wheel about £379 then about £70 of VAT/Import taxes so it would cost circa £450 for it.

I usually look for 50% off the best online price for stuff I sell on here so that would be £225 but happy to lower the price if you order Champagne!

  • Mines gone. Thought I'd replied, sorry Vince!

  • Hi all,

I am selling my rear Flo90 wheel if anyone is interested:
    https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/306915/

  • Want to change the 10 speed cassette body on 2 Flo hubs to 11 speed, any generic freehub bodies that will fit, or will I have to buy the Flo ones?
I could alternatively buy HG800 cassette and medium cage rear derailleur but that would cost more than ordering the hubs from Flo...

  • When I looked into it there was definitely a replacement body that would suit... Can't remember which one though. I think their hubs are novatec so start there?

  • The novatec pawls look a bit different from the Flo ones, although they might of course be compatible.
Got a Flo 30 rear and a flo 60 rear to sort.

  • I spent a lot of time trying to find a comparable Novatec rear hub to replace my Flo one when I thought it was knackered (just needed new bearings), but I never found one that's quite the same. Supposedly there's a video on their youtube of the hubs being manufactured where you can see the hubs of another brand in the background, but I've never been able to find one which looks identical externally or internally.

TL;DR just buy them from Flo if you want to save time.

  • Flo hubs look like Chosen hubs (some on-one, stan's, spank....)

    chosenhubs.com

  • Not wanting to piss on anyone's chips or anything but it seems that if you're looking for aero #gainz then Flo wheels don't test too well

  • In one test applying a well-considered but very unusual test protocol.

Xavier reckons some of the results of that test are a bit iffy, and if anyone's going to know, he's going to know.

  • Hunt and Flo wheels did badly - they're the two brands I've got! Sad

  • Interesting study, the thing that I took away from that is that I kinda want super deep wheels for everyday riding.

  • My idea of aero testing is me sitting on my TT bike in the garage and filming myself with an iPhone, so I’m not in a position to critique the testing protocols. The guy’s creds stack up though.

    I watched this video
featuring Xavier the other day and would love to do the velodrome/wind tunnel double header they did.

However, with my second child due any day now, I fear that I’ll be focusing just on limiting my training losses rather than dropping $$$$ on marginal gains for next season (if I even have a season).

  • Double disc wheels on the commute or GTFO.

  • I’ve got 3 sets of Hunts but I didn’t buy them for the aeros, I bought them because they’re well made, look good and are light for the money.

  • That follow up note:

    "FOLLOW UP... Letters from Lawyers
Shortly after writing this blog post, the author(s) received a letter from a firm of solicitors representing FLO cycling. They complained this page depicted their wheels in a poor light, the test protocol was not openly published (basically they were too stupid to understand it) and they did not like the statement that they had a limited understanding of the aerodynamics of rotating objects. They wanted their power figures removed from the data along with threats of court action

It should be noted that FLO Cycling have a somewhat questionable strategy of paying prominent forum members in a number of popular cycling/tri forums to endorse their products. They usually do this under the premise of free or heavily discounted wheels.

A COPY OF THE LETTER WILL BE UPLOADED IN DUE COURSE."

    Sad lol

  • If you need your dramah fix after the Mamnick shitshow and have a spare 4 hours, head to the thread about that on Weight Weenies.

  • Mamnick shitshow

    How did I miss that??
