Being lardy means snow melts as I run past it (slowly).
It might be a different story for those with a BMI < 22 but I've never got cold on a run in shorts and short sleeve top, even in driving snow.
I've worn knee-warmers on a few commutes so far as I don't generate anywhere near as much heat when cycling.
