What year are your old Aksiums? They have got slightly wider lately. For my money, the current ones are fine for tyres up to 25C, my GP4000S come up to 26.5mm on a current Aksium. If you're using bigger tyres than that, then something based on the Kinlin XR31T would be nice, if you don't mind spending the money.
Yes, I have thought about going with another set of Aksiums.
They have been great, bearings are still good and I’ve only had to clean/oil the freehub once. The rear has 3 seized nipples and the brake tracks are worn. I had them trued at my LBS who recommended a rebuild, but said it might be better just to replace with a new wheelset.
