Unless you're keen for the rustic, cut by hand aesthetic I'd get someone to cut you some vinyl stencils:

I've not actually used those guys but I think they're much of a muchness.
I'm painting up an old pompino at the moment, and wanted to stencil POMPINO onto the downtube.
My initial thinking was to use masking tape and cut out the text with an exacto knife. I thinks it's going to be too fragile though.
What material is normally used for stencils? As it's on a tube it feels like it should be sticky to prevent running, but more robust than masking tape.
What can I buy to help with this?
