I cycle to work most days, and I can't use my current track bike on the new commute. I've been considering this acquisition for a while now and moving out of London has finalised my decision.
Anyway aren't MTB's definitely more than 70AUD?

Yeah, my point was in the sticks you might find the dirt more appealing and your 2k roadie gathering dust. MTBs barely existed when I bought my first road bike. Mountains didn't exist where I lived.
Anyway I'd still get something substantially cheaper than your budget initially, especially if it's going to be used day in/day out commuting. You can get decent old road bikes on ebay for 2-300 quid.

I'd buy a shitter with gears and fucking destroy it before picking something up a bit better. You might move out to the sticks and find you like MTBing or something. £2k on first road bike? Mine cost $70AUD
