decathlon stuff is pretty bonkers good.
850 fill, responsibly sourced down, nice hood.....oh wait, that's the same specs as the rapha one, probably coming from a similar factory, marked up £150 more. twats. -

I love the bit upstairs with the camo hunting equipment

Note to self: don't take the kids upstairs. With mum.

Can’t believe Decathlon use responsible down at that price.
-
• #32035
On the product page it claims to be; only 800 fill, mind, but still seems decent value.

Well, they are a member of the RDS, which set the two most important points: no live plucking, and no force feeding. Uniqlo could well be getting down from suppliers that don't care about that, and I think that's disgusting.
-

Yeah I completely agree it’s important, just surprised decathlon can deliver at that price and still be ethical (at least in terms of their down procurement)
I’m quite sure my Quechua is not RDS, it was a trade off at the price at the time.

Sorry, “I can’t believe” was an expression of surprise/amazement rather than me questioning/doubting the fact.

What’s a reasonable down/feather ratio. Just checked my CMP and it’s 90/10. Is that better or worse?

I'm pretty sure a down coat is relatively easy to make, and seeing as it's not something Rapha were tooled up to do beforehand, maybe they just put a call in to a reasonably-high-end down jacket factory and said 'bang some pink on it'. Keeps them in the headlines.
-
• #32041
I doubt Rapha make any of their own products
Most companies don't. -
• #32042
What do you mean by 'make'?
Like most designer brands, there's a dedicated design process involving research and development, fabric and suppliers are sourced, then production is processed by factories.
So if you mean they don't sew the garments in the office, then no they don't. -

Thank you for feeling the need to explain to me. I work in Merchandising for a rather large fashion company so I know how it works.
I’m not sure what you’re getting at. -
• #32045
thanks to you fuckers its almost sold out .. now what do I buy?!
-
• #32046
I think he's explaining the difference between white labelling and their production process, because your previous post seemed to infer that Rapha white label everything, in response to userblahblah's post, where userblahblah suspected Rapha of simply white labelling someone else's gear.
or something

Have Rapha altered there sizing? Have always been a medium in both jersey ans bibs bought a new core jersey and bibs in medium and they fell a little sung which is strange as I've lose a few pounds since the last time I bought any Rapha.

I didn’t infer that at all. I said they don’t make any products. They don’t, which @monkdagola kindly, patronisingly explains and agrees with.
I thought the previous post about banging some pink on it was simply facetious and obviously not implying they’ve actually just stuck a Rapha label on someone else’s product but rather they’ve gone to a company or manufacturer who have experience of making those such products.
I know how supply chain works, I don’t think that Rapha white label so I wouldn’t be implying that they do would I? -
• #32049
I didn’t infer that at all.
I know you didn't mean to, hence I wrote 'seemed' - but that's how it can be interpreted.
I said they don’t make any products. They don’t
This is a controversial statement and requires a detailed understanding of modern supply chains and manufacturing to make sense of. It needed clarification in the context of userblahblah's comment, and @monkdagola provided that.

It's funny because I think that's exactly what the post implies, or rather I don't see much difference between white labelling and going to a supplier who can because you can't - and that's the problem with interpretation, I guess.

Decathlon
Aye, fantastic value for money. Practically all my family have the Decathlon ones.
I've got a couple of the Uniqlo ones at this price point (IIRC £60?) and been very happy with them. One of them now lives in the car in case of emergencies, and the other get thrown in a bag when travelling as a "just in case" item.
