I dont wear one for commuting around town at 15mph, but i have taken to wearing one for my long weekend rides at 15mph!
I wondered that, but my max speed is quite a lot higher when I'm out on a ride.
To be fair, Alex Dowsett has now deleted his original tweets etc. after some good points from various parties.

Ok. Everyone go away and do a literature search.
I could *('nt)*give a flying fuck about your opinions. There is statistically good evidence that helmets reduce risk:
-https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27450862There is good evidence that in laboratory tests there is a reduction of instrument based replication of head injury in bike accidents:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24686160There is limited evidence supporting reduction in cycling admissions following helmet legislation:
Against:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23674137
For:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26577650Takeaway whatever the fuck you want.
I'll probably put a lid on my own head.(Anecdotally- I've had better outcomes after 2 broken helmets than the 1 accident I had without a helmet.)

Just for completion:
Here's the study from mary's:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28945822
Here's a study from Taiwan with 'insignificant' increased hospitalisation for non-helmeted cyclists (I think)
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29342208
Here's one showing reduction in facial trauma:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28751943
And here's one from Korea: " A lack of helmet use was significantly associated with serious outcomes"

good for you!

These are just the most recent ones from a cited by search in PubMed originating from the Cochrane Review that's massively outdated.
(ie- not the most rigorous search I've ever done- nor scientific in method at all- maybe one day someone will give me a lab and a research grant and I can go after this properly).

I could give a flying fuck about your opinions.
Oh dear

If you read back to the last time someone posted a scientific study- it is all opinions or bellyaching about some pro telling people to wear helmets. (post #6777)
That is madness.
Frankly- people need to read more and react less. Including myself. Just now. And again.
But this is a lot more enjoyable than MRCP revision, so I've allowed myself to get distracted by a fun literature raid. -

I could give a flying fuck about your opinions.
This doesn't make sense

I thought the consensus is that yes, helmets are good in a crash but mandatory helmet laws result in a decrease in cycling that has a significantly worse net impact than the small % of injuries that are prevented by helmet usage?
Helmets also prevent injuries in cars, pedestrians, showers, ladders etc where there are no calls for mandatory helmets.

Show me data.

Opinion: A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof
Data:Facts that can be analyzed or used in an effort to gain knowledge or make decisions; information.
Makes perfect sense. I don't care what people think. I want proof. Not conjecture. Which is what this thread always devolves in.
My opinion doesn't matter- and though clear from my post above- should be taken in the same way I responded to others. The data seems to suggest one outcome. I'd welcome any other data points.

Got that.
If you're saying you don't care, you wanna say you couldn't give a fuck.
That's all -
• #6914
You're focusing on the wrong bit, 'I could give' suggests you do give a flying fuck, 'I couldn't give a flying fuck' would be correct.

• #6915
Ah sorry. (and @umop3pisdn also)
-
• #6916
I think @eyebrows could care less about grammar guys, this thread is about helmet facts.

• #6917
Your helmets were broken, you say?
-
• #6918
Couldn’t*
-
• #6919
Good job. I wanted to say something similar but didn't want to face the backlash.
I also wanted to say that low speed is absolutely not the same as low risk. The fact that you're only riding at 20 mph doesn't mean you're safe. Your riding is only a part of the equation determining how likely you are to fall off and land on your head.

Grammar (and spelling) are my nemeses.

• #6922
yes. Very.
What state were your helmets in after your collisions?

Is this some sort of circular nightmare?

Were they split? Shattered?
I'm going to have to peel his name tag off my tarck frame now, aren't I. What a colossal bellend.
P.S. Alex drinking is a health risk too, doesn't stop you going on benders in Amsterdam, apparently.
