I thought the consensus is that yes, helmets are good in a crash but mandatory helmet laws result in a decrease in cycling that has a significantly worse net impact than the small % of injuries that are prevented by helmet usage?
Helmets also prevent injuries in cars, pedestrians, showers, ladders etc where there are no calls for mandatory helmets.
