I wasn't saying that sending kit to Nigeria is working to make cycling more diverse in the UK - in fact I was saying we should probably look closer to home if we want to make the sport more inclusive.
However, photos of Nigerian men and women tearing it up in Lagos wearing KW kit sends out the right message. Perhaps Rutland CC could think about joining the initiative too.

I'm sorry but I really disagree. It looks, to me, like someone with fake tan on.
I don't know anything about the De Monte thing, so instantly it does look like blackfacing amongst the rest.
Man from Del Monte? Didn't recognize the costume-immediate impression is blackface.
This, especially since it's also a similar shade to the dodgier Rasta one from that photo below;

Fair play to the guy who apparently spent the night carting around a pirate ship though.

What about the coal miner who smokes weed?*

Who's the prick in the steam punk get up supposed to be?

I didn’t get the costume when I saw the photo at first either but neither did I think ‘blackface’ when I saw it.
I guess it’s subjective and when taken in context with the other photos it was posted with, it doesnt look good.
That there was still cries of ‘racism’ after it was explained that the guy was dressed up as a white bloke isn’t a good look either though. In my opinion.

If you're "dressed as a white bloke" do you need to apply boot polish to your face?
As outfits go, I'd say it's pretty confused. Maybe if it was Joey Essex or something it might make sense, but yeh. Man from Del Monte. The lols.

If we want to get really deep then Rasicm being a systemic issue of socioeconomic and geopolitical oppression, dressing up as the classic white saviour who exploits the locals by buying their products at low prices is probably not a good thing.
Just saying.
Now of course Del Monte don't make their buying transparent but given that they are a multi billion dollar business, and were taken to court in the US for paying below the minimum wage for tuna canners, then they are not exactly going to be paying top price for their fruit.

I’m pretty certain it’s either fake tan or a tinted foundation rather than boot polish.
I agree the costume is a pure shiter but if you’re gonna denounce anyone that’s ever applied fake tan or tinted foundation as a racist, best of luck with that.

If, as a white person, you're using fake tan or makeup for the purpose of appearing to be a different race, can we agree that's probably racist?
-
• #1162
Yes.

And vampire costumes glorify the legacy of a genocidal leader who reputedly nailed the turbans to the heads of Turkish messengers who would not remove them willingly.
And witch outfits perpetuate the stereotyping and villification that led to the execution of hundreds of thousands of women.
And don’t get me started on the white normalisation behind ghost costumes.
-
• #1164
i'd say the first is a little of a stretch, and the others are super valid.

Thought Vampire's and witches started of as antisemitism - hook noses, drinking blood etc etc

Just don't ginge up as Ron Weasley.

By associating drinking blood with Judaism you're implictly endorsing the propaganda and vilification contained in the Elders of Zion.
View's good from up here. Good horsey. Nice horsey.

Hang on, I thought LFGSS was a safe space for us redheads? Gingerism is the last socially acceptable hate crime in this country. Can someone get the ban hammer out?

And don’t get me started on the white normalisation behind ghost costumes.
Go on then...I thought ghosts (of the white sheet variety) came from them having risen with their burial shrouds?

Mamnick Thom pretending to be a humanitarian doctor on Twitter for the last 5 years has to be one of the most disturbing kernels from this popcorn machine.

Now also "Bentley Andorra" involved in the action, first accusing sockpuppettry then deleting tweet and blocking.
Very odd...

At least we have a sock puppet symbol now. It's a triangle with another triangle hiding behind it.

So back to the spot the racist calendar bingo, who is everyone dressed as?
I can't see the pirate one properly so not including that, but from left to right.....Mr January Jim Davidson is fair of face....oh hang on, Krusty the clown, Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics, Percy from Blackadder, a horse as a zebra, Bill or Ben the flowerpot man, The man from Delmonte who actually looks like Rab C Nesbitt after being vegan for 4 years and living in Spain, Osama Bin Lad'en, Swampthing?, and some Amish dude with Spock ears, oh hang on that's Vincent Van Gogh right?
Poor Vincent, a lone BBC4 culture beacon in a sea of ITV twats. I'm guessing this photograph was when Vincent realised the rest of his club were not the kind of dudes he wants to hang with, they look like they like a good hanging this bunch.... I bet Vincent doesn't show up to this years party.
EDIT: sorry I tried to include the pic with this post but failed.
not the way I read his comment, but hey ho. Internet: choose your weapon.
