• Hive mind, help required please!

Have been enjoying the Charge, but have come to the conclusion it's too small (no sh*t, look at that seatpost) for long rides. I've also got a new (to me) best bike in the stable which isn't suitable for wet weather therefore I feel another build (or two) coming on.

I'm thinking of splitting this bike's task into two:

    1. Winter trainer with ~32mm tyres, guards and optional racks for longer journeys (but would be happy/enjoyable as a commuter
    2. Fun commuter (details tbc)

I'll eat my greens and sort out the winter trainer first. I have the Charge up for sale, if it doesn't sell I have plans (think nobblies and ss).

After lots of attempts I've found my magic numbers, ~650mm stack, ~390mm reach and ideally a seat tube over of 610mm.

    Few options I've found include:

    1. Surly disc trucker - sizing looks good, but worried it'll be too heavy/truck like for the miles I plan to use it for
    2. Omnium CXC - bit of an unknown, but it it doesn't work out I could convert it into a SS commuter
    3. Soma, all other Surlys - too long
    4. All City - £££
    5. Bowman, Specialized, Secan and many others - too short seat tube

Any other ideas? Would I be ok on a disc trucker hats other a light(ish) build?

  • Darwin One By MT in large has almost your excact specs.
    665mm stack, 391mm reach.

There's also the Genesis vagabond in size L?
It has 395mm of reach and 627mm of stack.
You could size up to an XL, to get 646mm stack, but then you'd end up with 410mm reach.

If you want something nicer/more expensive you could go for a Bomtrack Beyond 1.

  • Canyon Grail - sizing seems odd compared to your requirements, presumably because you are looking at frame stack/reach and they measure system stack and reach including the bars, but the seat tube on the 2xl is long enough....

had a brief ride off road on one and they are wicked bad fun...
