  • Ruthless!

I've let her out again and shes gone straight for the pigeons. I hope she doesn't catch it again, or at least bring it home...

  • Sometimes I do wonder which is more merciful? To let it go back into the wild and possibly die later or let the cat kill it, so at least it's quicker...

So far I have tried to let them go whenever I can and will probably take them to the vet again if it happens again, but it's annoying that they just kill for fun.

  • You can put a bell on your cat's collar to decrease its chances of catching stuff. Birdologists (technical term) will thank you

You can put a fucking bell on yourself to get a grip on how annoying it is.

  • I don't need one, I'm too slow to catch birds

Aren't you like a vegan anyway? It might be annoying but you've got to weigh that up against dealing with dead or dying animals in your house and the potential ecological impact* that your cat has. For some people it's worthwhile. Just a suggestion, you don't have do it if you don't like it

    * RSPB says the impact on bird populations in the UK is fairly minimal. In the US I think cats eating birds is quite a big problem.

  • please tell me you're not one of those #vegancat people

  • No, I don't have a cat or anything, but that would be cruel. I was just trying to be helpful really, looks like it backfired

  • Patch enjoying the spring... just found this pic on my computer last night... maybe last year?

  • Didn't mean to offend you, sorry if that came across a bit harsh.

My point being: cats are hunters, it's normal that they go after birds.
If you get yourself a cat you might just deal with that instead of putting a bell on the cat. Right?
It's humiliating. Imagine all the birds, laughing at your cat.

Sure, you could just deal with it. The alternative is to prevent the cat from being able to catch things by putting a bell on it and keeping it indoors at certain times/all the time. I guess some people might think that's a different sort of cruelty... it's all a big compromise really

  • I put one of those Lindt bunny bells on a backpack a few years ago. Barely notice it anymore but it does a great job of confusing people

  • Don't see what the fuss is all about with cat wearing a bell. It's not humiliating, cats don't feel shame.

It's funny it was mentioned, as normally she wears one, but it looks like she lost it yesterday, which I suspect is why she had success catching the pigeon in the first place.

Thankfully I bought a multi pack of collars, so I'll be putting a new one on her tonight.

  • You strike me as a "dog person".

  • I've given up on the collars with bells as the dog removed the bell for the cat. I suspect because it irritates him as much as me. Besides the bells are for birds and stuff and my furry psychopath prefers larger game.... like Alsatians and children. i wish i was joking, its funny the first time you hear "aah, pussy cat, here puss.... oh jesus aaaaaaaaaaaah" its the apologies to parents that get boring after a while. The cat always looks so damn smug too.

  • Now that is team work.

  • Think that they are not happy about cats at all.

    Or mass bird murders....

  • Drama on my doorstep. New black kitty is in the house, Waily (local stray) comes over for his food and the black kitty comes out and tries to steal it whilst he is eating it! She learned a few lessons this evening.

  • V2 is much better I think.

  • Really looking forward to seeing the result!

  • Me too. I just hope Patch would be proud! :-D

  • Squeeee! Gigi is now part of the family. Bit of an emotional day with picking up Lula Balulas ashes but it's wonderful having another purring beasty about entertaining us...who knew we had so many dusty hiding places!
