    PS - Don't forget to wet your cotton tape before wrapping: it'll be
    more pliable and lay down and conform better to the shape of the bar;
    it'll be easier to pull and stretch; and it'll dry super-tight over
    the bar. This works even for cotton tapes with adhesive background.

  • Very useful and will give it a go.

  • When have I let you down?

  • Having a go with wrapping the bar tape wet. It's been a bit tricky to say the least.
    The GB Super Hood caliper clips don't fit the bars very tightly and have had to hold them in place with sticky tape -

  • I did consider fitting the clips over the tape as they were previously but I don't think it would have worked very well with the cotton and would have probably snagged the tape or moved it fitting them.

  • I had the same issue in the past.
    I've positioned the levers where I wanted them to be and used a marker to draw on the bars 1 line at each side of the clip.
    I then wrapped the bars right up to the mark. Removed the lever from the clip as per your picture, used a strip of the same tape to hold the clip (like the extra pieces that come with modern bar tape), pressing on the slot so it sticks to the bar.
    Wrapped around close to the clip so you don't end up with a gap. Once past the clip, you can now fit the lever, could be tricky to find the threaded hole first attempt. Once that's done you can tightened it.
    I think it looks tidier than fitting the clip over the tape.

  • Cheers @ElGato and will probably try that method at some point.

    It's turned out quite good for a 1st attempt with wet tape.

  • Yes, it looks really good.

  • Thanks mate.

    Fitted the outer cables, adjusted the position of the brake levers, fitted a handlebar bottle cage (60s I think?) and a Adie bell.

    I fitted the bell to the inside of the handlebars as I've seen them fitted in this position before and the top of the bars is a bit busy with the bottle cage.
