  • if im being "totally" honest....aesthetics 70%/ ability to shield arse 20% / hope it will stay dry 10%

  • mmmmmmmmm...copper. sold

  • I’ve changed how I mount my front guard (mounting it behind the nut on the bolt that holds my canti cable stop with another but) to make it quicker to fit/remove and it has pushed the guard back a bit so now my, err, flap rubs the ground.

I cut a bit off the flap this morning but it’s still happening.

Wonder if I should keep cutting or just sack the flap all together, coverage from the guard alone is on a be pretty good.

  • I'd leave it, friction will sort it out and it's good'n bendy. Probably won't actually drag when you're riding.

  • coverage from the guard alone is on a be pretty good.

I don't think so; your feet will still get wet without the mud flap. I say leave it, maybe trim it some more.

  • It does sadly, and annoyingly. Very annoying!

  • Time to arrange a bris then!

  • .

  • A bris?

Trimmed it a bit and it no longer rubs on even ground. Turning and undulations still catch it but so long as it’s not scraping along all the time.

  • I have some longboards. Is there another way of cutting the metal supports other than a rusty old blunt hacksaw?

CBA to remove them after a trial fitting

  • brake cable cutters work

  • Bolt cutters are the easiest/quietest, but you obviously need dremel schooling.

  • Get a cheap dremel, it'll do the trick nicely/without any swearing

  • If the chainstay bridge isn't drilled, what's the general consensus on the forum: drill or p-clip? I'm leaning towards drilling because I'll need to use spacers and I'm not sure if a p-clip will be secure with >10mm of spacing. The frame is steel.

  • Mudguards for 30-32c road tires?
So far the options are longboards 45mm (too wide), Pelago 36mm (too tight), Zefal C40 (front fork mount may need bodging), kinesis (front too short).

  • GB 40mm fit mine nicely. Maybe a bit close for some but they're rigid enough for it to work well for me.
Is 45 mm definitely too wide? The extra width will give you good coverage.

  • Gilles Berthoud 40 mm

  • So true.

I got some 18" boot croppers for a tenner today.

I'll probably make a mess of it and end up with a Dremel, and make an even bigger mess of it

If you have ever been a teenage boy you should have the grip to use these.
Caution the free end does have a tendency to bedoing randomly with an injurious speed.
Best to cover with an old rag.

  • Question:
I have some (carbon) forks that contain a metal insert with threaded hole on the underside of the crown, for attaching a mudguard.

They also have a hole drilled in the crown in the normal place for caliper brakes. The metal insert is long enough so that it's not possible to use this hole, as it's in the way.

I want to attach some Bluemels without drilling them to fix them the underside of the crown ideally- would prefer just to attach them using this bit and the 'normal' hole for caliper brakes:

Has anyone had the same situation as above? Can I just try to screw something into the insert and yank it out, or is there a more nuanced method?

  • Those 27.5+ guards looks great! Ive been looking for full guards for 3 years. How do they fit over 2.8 tyres? Do you think they could handle a 3.0 studded tyre?

  • I've always removed those tabs by drilling them out, but have never worked with carbon fenders.

  • I haven't mounted them yet. The pic was taken on 2.8 tyre. They are made of plastic so there is some scope to play with a heat gun...
