Ha! I'm more of a Jay Bennett fan when it comes to Wilco but he's still cool, I meant the other guy... Didn't notice the cardigan, did you not see the cat? 1'20"...

I didn’t make it to 0’20.
Tend to agree on n Nels in Wilco. Actually my favourite guitar playing on a Wilco album is Jeff Tweedy doing it himself on AGIB.
I just like the Nels in his own merit! He’s avuncular, funny, a killer player and noisemaker and has no hint of gear snobbery about him. He’s a dude!

I don't really know anything about him, I really enjoyed his Rig Rundown whenever that was... Did he play on YHF? I could walk over to my records and check, but ICBF... That's the last Wilco record I own...
PS the guitars on the first three Wilco LPs are spectacular, love them... Very trad/power pop but that's my fave bag...
Apart from anti-music fuzz terrorism, that's my top fave...

He does loads of freak jazz noise stuff. Joined Wilco for the AGIB tour I think and the record he played on was Sky Blue Sky. Impossible Japan is the tune that people seem to take his noodles to heart on.

Give it a try (cardigan wearing, cat owner with eight strings in band context)

Micro Cube in local secondhand shop for £70. Living room amp?
-
• #6163
Bro, wait for some cheap tubes... Gumtree that shit...
-
• #6164
A cheap AC10 popped up the other day, was so tempted but absolutely no point when you've already got an AC15... I'm after an AC4C1, the black one...
-

Don't want tubes really. I have tubes. I want child-proof, cheap, a few effects and and voices at very low volume.
-
• #6166
If you're talking super low volumes would you not be as well with some sort of headphone scenario?

Yamaha THR-10

• #6168
I thought you had a yamaha on order? It's a great amp
-
• #6169
Finger was hovering over buy on the THR-10 a couple of weeks ago... Bought a new TS-9 instead.
Headphones just not the same is it? Can plug into Logic if I want headphones. I want something for late night noodling in front of the fire or TV. Was gonna get the Yamaha but a Micro Cube just popped up in a local shop.

The only time I tried a a Micro Cube was when I bought my electric off some guy on Shpock. It was a Micro 30. It sounded lovely (mostly played it clean) but I remember thinking it was loud for his living room.

@No_Sense_Needed, Nah - I had a moment and binned the order to get a new OD pedal and some other bits instead. Still have need of a little amp tho. I reckon I should just buy it as a b'day pressie to myself.

Happy Birthday, Do it! I think a Micro Cube is a safe bet for price/size/quality.

1 watt valve combo with reverb?
-
• #6174
Nah. Honestly, I'm not convinced by the teeny tiny valve amp thing. I have a OG Champ with a Weber speaker in it and it sounds great but even 5w with the volume on 4 is going to bother the neighbours. I need something that does passable clean and gain sounds at conversation levels and i'm not convinced that even 1w valve amps do that. To my ear these micro-tube things all sound boxy as all hell. Which can be a good sound in some applications, but that's all they do. Don't get me wrong, I'ma massive valve amp snob, but for this particular application, I'd rather have something that does a range of emulated sounds through a couple of tiny full range speakers... Think i'm going to go back to the Yamaha which seems to tick all those boxes.

Smart move, a friend has the Yamaha and he loves the crap out of it... If I wasn't such a dickhead I'd probably get something similar...
Found a very attractively priced 100W JCM900 today, I might buy it...
😅 Each to their own eh! I think it's great to see someone doing something really different with the guitar as an instrument though! You should have a listen to his band, I think you might find it more palatable in context!
