My point being: cats are hunters, it's normal that they go after birds.
If you get yourself a cat you might just deal with that instead of putting a bell on the cat. Right?

Sure, you could just deal with it. The alternative is to prevent the cat from being able to catch things by putting a bell on it and keeping it indoors at certain times/all the time. I guess some people might think that's a different sort of cruelty... it's all a big compromise really
